Rosarito B. C.- Preparations are complete to finish the "Copa de la Amistad Rosarito 2000", a sports event to promote youth baseball.

The organizing committee of Club Infantil Sonrisas,  coordinated with the City Council, led by Silvano Abarca and councilmen Francisco Carrazco and Antonio Masías, to be sure the event was succesful. The sports event was held October 29 with a competition between the "Selección de Rosarito" and the Dukes team of El Monte, CA. Before the event., the city put on a baseball clinic for the children of the city leagues.

The Dukes have distinguished themselves in the United States, because their organization has had several players advance to the Major Leagues, among them Gabe Alvarez, of the San Diego Padres. The manager of the Dukes, Ken Weldon, prepared the team for this tour of Baja California. On previous occasions when both teams met, the Dukes won by only a small margin, demonstrating the outstanding sports qualities of the Rosarito team.

The day of the event, the children were surprised with visits from representatives of our sponsors such as SouthCoast, Baja Guide, TA Design Group, Initial Pixel and the El Monte, California Police Department, who gave gifts to the attending children.

Another purpose of this event is to offer an opportunity for the scouts of the professional leages to discover the most talented and best athletes of Baja California.

We are grateful to the organizers and the municipal authorities who turned this into an international match and thereby contributed to the promotion of tourism in Rosarito at this level of sports.
